Rubber Tile – Functional Versatility
Rubber by its very nature is an interesting product. Natural rubber is born from the sap of the Hevea Brasiliensis, more commonly called the rubber tree. It takes six years for a tree to produce sap and it can continue to produce for about 28 years. Most trees produce 19 pounds of rubber every year. Only 40% of rubber used today is “natural” and comes directly from the sap. The rest is manufactured synthetically. More than 33 billion pounds of rubber are produced every year creates more than 40,000 kinds of products, including rubber flooring. A tremendous amount of rubber is also recycled into rubber floor tile, making it the ideal product for eco-focused and green buyers. Old tires make excellent new floors!
In recent years, rubber tile has become more popular and uses range from healthcare and education to gymnasiums and countless high-traffic environments. Rubber tile is extremely versatile and comes in a wide range of colors, patterns, and textures. Rubber tile comes in 12-inch, 24-inch, and 36-inch squares in varying thickness to adapt to almost any installation.
Where to Use Rubber Floor Tile
Rubber tile is at its best in high-use, heavily trafficked areas. With both smooth and raised design finishes, rubber tile can be integrated into almost any design. Rubber stands up very well to wheelchairs, carts, gurneys, hospital beds, luggage carriers, dollies, or anything with heavy rolling wheels. Being naturally slip resistant and with the ability to resist scuffing and gouging, rubber is worth a consideration in the toughest environments.
Consider rubber tile in:
- Stairwells
- Areas with grease, oil, or other chemicals
- Hospitals and healthcare facilities
- Schools and play areas
- Recreational facilities
- Health clubs and gyms
- and more!
Advantages of Rubber Floor Tile
There are a number of reasons to choose rubber tile. Whether it’s smooth rubber sheet tile, square rubber tiles, rubber floor mats, interlocking tiles or recycled rubber flooring, the pros are plenty. One of the main advantages of rubber flooring tiles is easy installation. Reversable interlocking pieces are simple to put together and take apart while being sturdy enough not to pull apart when being used. In addition, rubber tiles are highly transportable and can be re-installed time and again without damage. Other benefits include:
- Resistant to bacteria and fungi
- Homogeneous (color extends through the product)
- PVC-free and/or low VOC
- Low maintenance
- Resistant to stains and indentations
- Soft underfoot
- Noise reduction
- Can be placed over existing floors
- Custom logos and design elements can be incorporated
