Continental Sets Sail with More Shipboard Flooring Options
There are more waves on the ocean, and more shipboard flooring options from CFC. Continental Flooring Company now offers a complete line of flooring and deck coverings that meet U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and Naval specifications. Everything changes when working environments are in motion, so it’s important to use top quality, compliant products that adhere to IMO (International Maritime Organization) standards. Slip resistance (especially when the surface is wet) becomes extremely important as the risk of slipping certainly rises aboard a moving vessel. In addition, shipboard flooring is also required to have passive fire protection and low toxic emissions.
Continental offers a number of different surface products can be considered for shipboard use:
Switchboard Matting & Dielectric Insulating Sheet
Notrax non-conductive switchboard matting is designed to provide insulation for workers. Made from a PVC compound, the mat prevents workers from being grounded, thereby eliminating the possibility of electrical shock. The corrugated saw-tooth top surface provides increased traction and is easy to sweep clean. Notrax matting and insulating sheet work well in front of high voltage boxes, electrical fuse boxes, and transformers.
Fire Retardant Deck Tile
Armstrong vinyl tile meets requirements for size, thickness, squareness, indentation, impact, dimensional stability, resistance to chemicals, and resistance to heat. Roppe and Flexco rubber floors also meet the specs for fire retardant decking.
Ceramic, Quarry & Porcelain Tile
Daltile offers unglazed quarry tile that is naturally stain- and slip-resistant, and is available with an abrasive grain for even greater traction. Daltile’s ColorBody porcelain tiles are extremely hard and impermeable, which makes the tiles highly resistant to moisture, staining and wear. In producing this type of porcelain tile, a color pigment is mixed with the clay body powder, giving the finished tile a consistent color throughout the body of the tile. This type of tile withstands temperature extremes, and may be used in exterior applications, including pool linings and other wet spaces or surfaces exposed to water.
Crossville’s mosaic porcelain tile system and tile cove are manufactured with a waterproof membrane in accordance with Commercial Standard ANSIA137.1
Anti-Fatigue Matting
Nortrax matting is perfect for shipboard use. Cushion-Ease® Solid is a modular anti-fatigue matting system made with a resilient rubber compound and a multi-nib support design that offers exceptional fatigue relief. All Cushion-Ease® mats have a male/female interlocking system and are compatible with NoTrax® M.D. Ramps for easy on-site custom configurations and trip-resistant platforms. The solid-top design of Cushion-Ease® Solid has an anti-slip surface texture for added traction and is easy to clean. Cushion-Ease® mats are available in both grease resistant, and grease-proof versions with select products (red only) manufactured with MicroStop™ antimicrobial rubber that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi.
Grit Strip
RC Musson Grit Strips are slip resistant tape made of a tough mineral-coated waterproof non-slip surfacing with a pressure sensitive adhesive back. These strips are ideal for boats and docks and help grip foot traffic, preventing slipping. Grit Strips are easy to apply can be used inside or outside and come in rectangular sizes with rounded corners or in rolls cut to any length. (We suggest priming surfaces with Musson Grit Strip Adhesive before applying.) In addition to shipboard use, also ideal for entranceways, ramps and walkways, stairways, heavy traffic areas, work areas, loading docks, recreational vehicles, , cafeterias, kitchens, coolers, around drinking fountains and ice machines.
