Types of Ceramic, Porcelain and Quarry Tile
Commercial porcelain, ceramic and quarry tile come in various sizes and shapes and unlimited choices of color and texture. Polished and unpolished finishes are available for different installation requirements. Add accent pieces with mosaic tiles, design patterns and listelloes.
Recent trends include ceramic plank tile. Wood plank tiles look like natural wood and with textures that provide a true wood-look and feel. Plank tile is a perfect application in areas where real wood is desired but is unable to withstand moisture or high traffic issues.
Porcelain tile is higher in density and more durability than commercial ceramic; however, both products are constructed in similar manners. Porcelain and ceramic tile can be used on walls, floors and counter tops. Commercial tile may be used in indoor and outdoor applications
Quarry floor tile is traditionally an unglazed, red or gray, 6” x 6” x 1/2” tile. Today’s modern “decorator” tiles come in a variety of tints and finishes with abrasive grit embedded in the surface for a non-slip finish. These tiles are excellent in wet areas such as commercial kitchens and laboratories. Its durable material and non-porous properties also make it ideal for outdoor use.
From an installer’s perspective, many may find ceramic easier to cut as it is inherently thinner and less dense. Both commercial porcelain and ceramic tiles require professional expertise in commercial or industrial floor installation.
