Wall Base – A Renovation Solution

Flooring renovations can range from simple to complicated. Along with the flooring surface, walls are often damaged during the process. By selecting the right wall base, wall repair can be quickly alleviated. In addition, the finishing border you choose can also be the solution for concealing any gaps between the wall and the floor, especially around corners.

Wall base comes in a variety of sizes and material, ranging in height from 2.5” to up to 6” – ensuring damaged wall areas near the floor are well covered. When choosing the height of the wall base, it’s important to look at the scope of renovation, what walls may be damaged with the floor tear out, what new product is going onto the floor, and what height of base is needed to mitigate and cover any areas of concern. It’s also important to consider the shape and size of the room, what kind of traffic may impact the installation, and how durable the base needs to be. Generally, the higher the base, the more protected the wall is from any abuse.

The main types of wall base are made from rubber, vinyl, or a rubber and vinyl blend. Decorative wall base is also available for areas that need more of an aesthetic look. Rubber base will be very effective in high traffic areas and will protect your wall from nicks and scratches, while vinyl base might be more practical in less trafficked areas.  A rubber and vinyl blend is a bit more distinctive and provides the look of vinyl with the protection of rubber. Blended products make sense where visual aspects are more important. Wall base comes in a variety of colors, so it is easy to create a seamless look to your area.
